I've installed a 7Seas fishing spot near the store in Ufeus. It's simple and quiet, and very foggy.
I like setting up the sky to "coastal sunset", or to a custom overcast preset.
Here's the direct SLURL to the fishing camp. Please feel free to catch as many fish as you want. Even though the sim is mature, I'll appreciate it if you're not doing the naughty there ;-) I'd like everybody to feel welcome at that spot.
You don't know what I'm talking about?
Here's a post I've written in a forum, to explain to a friend what fishing in SL was like. I may as well post it here for you! ^.^
Seriously, fishing in SL could be best described as crack on a stick.
I've tried two systems: the Neo-Realms and the 7Seas one, and I like both.
In both, you randomly catch fish with your rod. The odd of catching fish, and the quality of the fish, increase with experience, which your rod gets whenever you catch a fish.
You also get crafting quests in both. I haven't completed any yet, so I can't tell what the rewards are, but I'm very very excited when I catch a quest item!
1)Neo-Realms: The fish is cute and fun, but not as nice as the 7Seas fish. Imo, the real appeal of the Neo-Realms system stems from its competitive aspect. I like that you can compete in "event rod - beginner mode" contests, which means you don't use bait, and everybody is on the same level. I also like that you can compete with your best weapons at times. The contests are great fun and easy to get to, as the location, time and scores are displayed wherever the system is installed.
There's a list of the fish you've caught, you can spend reward points on bait or a better rod (I'm planning on building up my points for an epic rod that way), and so on.
The downside: installing a franchise will cost you an arm and a leg, and it's not really yours. You have to let people install it for you, and be careful as not to return it.
Robin Sojourner has a great Neo-Realms spot on her island, if you want to try it (the event rod is free, and you can cast 50 times a day with it).
2) 7Seas:
Not as competitive, but the fish, OH MY! Seriously!
It's sculpted, animated, extremely well textured, cute, and it's not just fish!
I caught a scuba girl, and a scuba boy, and very nice hats, and a bikini, and I hope to catch an aquarium soon.
You can wear your fish, in which case they behave like pets (sitting on your shoulder or swimming around you), or you can send them to n 7Seas aquarium. If you want, you can even interact with the fish in the aquarium by feeding it, cleaning the water and so on.
Installing a 7seas system on your land is dead simple. It's *yours*, so you don't have to worry about it being returned. I bought the decoration kit that goes with it, and it's very nice.
I find the contests are not as easy to get to, as you have to read the lists and remember the times they're on. I'm crap at planning in advance (darn timezones!), so I haven't been to any contest yet.
To sum it up:
Neo-Realms: I want more XP! NOW!
7Seas: I want more Pets! NOW!
